The requirement for planning specifications for barrier-free transitions exists in many gouvernmental norms and regulations.
During implementation, however, the planner faces many challenges with regard to the interfaces between the individual topics of "door, waterproofing and drainage". Here, the companies Profine, Alwitra and ACO Hochbau have started a project to develop a so-called zero threshold. The focus was, as already demanded by AIBau in 2010, on the conception of easy-to-execute files or prepared safe connections of the waterproofing. The ACO Profiline Free drainage system, which was specially developed and tested for this purpose, is available as an open channel system for outdoor living spaces on roofs, balconies, loggias and arcades in accordance with DIN 18531 and as a closed channel system for areas in contact with the ground in accordance with DIN 18533.
With the product ACO Profiline Free, ACO has won the DETAIL jury prize in the category Construction and Material.

The ACO Profiline Free channel system from ACO offers a self-contained, standard and DIN-compliant device for the transition from inside to outside. The absence of thresholds ensures accessibility, while the DIN nomination enables the system to be classified in the rules of building technology. The product also convinced the jury on a design

Through a clever adaptation and using the already proven 20 mm threshold, all our entrance door and patio systems in the basic depths 76 and 88 can be transformed into barrier-free threshold solutions. In the case of the leaf profiles, the inner leaf overlaps are trimmed and fitted with a special stop sealing strip.

Barrier-free, i.e. threshold-free transitions from the living space to the terrace or balcony are nowadays part of the standard of upscale residential construction. However, it must be ensured that no rainwater can enter the building from the outside. PremiPlan® and PremiPlan® Plus can be installed in flat roofs or in areas close to and in contact with the ground.
The premium threshold system for maximum accessibility with a high level of walking comfort thanks to installation at ground level to zero millimetres. A parallel lowerable floor seal is a central component of a multi-stage and continuous sealing concept that achieves maximum values by means of specially developed moulded parts. The modular design of the system allows for efficient production and assembly.
Both threshold systems can be used in the window and entrance door systems 88 MD and 76 rebate and centre seal, for single-leaf, inward-opening units. 2-leaf and outward-opening elements are currently undergoing preliminary testing.
